Focus Skill: Word relationships

Objective: To use word relationships to determine meaning and to read and understand a historical fiction selection

Activity: As a whole group, we reviewed, discussed and explained our choices to our “extending vocabulary regionalism” to expand our knowledge of words that are unique and have similarities. This activity included working with synonyms, antonyms,  multiple meaning words, and other word relationships.

Comprehension

Objective: To read and understand a historical fiction selection

Activity: As a whole group, students reviewed their homework assignment and discussed the comprehension questions to help better prepare them for the comprehension test over “I Have Heard of a Land”.  These questions included applying what they have learned this week about historical fiction, narration, people and events in the story, compare and contrast, details, inferences, sequence of events, and an overall picture of what life was like for pioneers during the times of  the Oklahoma Land Run.
