Focus Skill: Word Relationships

Objective: To use word relationships to determine meaning; to read and understand a historical fiction selection

Activity: To further review and practice word relationships, students reviewed yesterdays homework assignments in whole group discussion. We discussed our answers on word relationships and confirmed meanings on each question of antonyms, synonyms, homographs and multiple meanings.

Homework Assignment: Students are to complete an ED. Helper worksheet over the same skills that we reviewed on Monday and Tuesday for additional practice and application of skills.

Objective: To read and understand a historical fiction selection

Activity: Students were to read questions over “I Heard of a Land” and answer the guided comprehension questions. This is a follow-up activity to the instruction taught in yesterday’s lesson on reading in context and the historical fiction information within a story.

Objective: To teach unknown words in a variety of way

Activity: Students reviewed their vocabulary words within sentence context and also the definition of each word.  We confirmed meanings within the homework assignment due today and discussed how words can sometimes have multiple meanings.
