Fourth Grade Reading

Focus Skill: Author’s Purpose

Objective: To determine the viewpoint of an author on a topic

Activity: We discussed and reviewed the fact that an author’s purpose or reason for writing may be to entertain, inform or to persuade. We discussed “Blue Willow” and did small group table mates today to answer comprehension questions that the author posed in the story. We asked ourselves “What does the author seem to feel about the topic and how can we tell?” We followed up by reviewing the worksheet for homework due today that posed two different stories. We had to determine the author’s purpose and perspective on these two stories.
