1st  through 3rd hour students read articles in the “choices” Magazine relating to drug and alcohol addiction.PASS FCS ,6,7,12,13,15   Character Education, 1,2,3,,4,5,7,9   Health 1,2,3,4,5,6,7

5th hour students – read articles concerning the brain and drugs and the effects on the body.PASS Life  Sciences, risk and benefits, Personal and Community Health

6th hour same as 1-3 hours.

7th hour students read an article son decision making/peer influences and answered questions at the end.

PASS same as 5th hour


Reading we started with the question of the day and our big book read aloud.  We reviewed our high-frequency words.  We identified compound words and read the smaller words that make up compound words.  We did practice page 66.  (2.2a,understand compound words) We reviewed spelling words and took our spelling test. We identified the plot of a story and reviewed our robust vocabulary words.  We took our comprehension test over our story this week.  In grammar we reviewed names of days, months, and holidays are proper nouns.

Math we reviewed the value of a quarter and a half dollar and we had to find the value of a mixed group of coins to 99 cents.  (4.3b)


Today we practiced for the We Really Shine program so we didn’t have math.

Language Arts

Focus- Reading and Spelling: Short u. Grammar: Nouns, animals and things.

Activities- Today we did our Language Arts and Spelling tests.

Reflection- They did well on the Spelling test, but I haven’t had time to grade the Reading test yet.

PASS- Standard 3.1a Use short and long vowel patterns, 3.1c Use blends, digraphs, and diphthongs, 4.4 Classify categories of words, 6.1a Read and comprehend both fiction and nonfiction that is appropriately designed for first grade, 6.1c Respond to questions designed to aid general comprehension.

Today is Halloween and most of the children were dressed in costumes.  We also had the “We Really Shine” program and passed out candy treats. Mrs. Yandell & I  decided to combine the classes today, and rotate all students through three groups at one time: 1. Journal Writing, “What I want to be for Halloween”, 2. “C, N, P, & D” phonics review w/s. & 3. Math with Mrs. Yandell.

We also read some Halloween stories and sung some scary songs too.

Among all the hectic activities today, we did manage to work on some of our important reading skills.  Those included: word building, onset/rime blending, & segmenting words.

We reviewed chapter 10 for a while.  Nurse Lori came in and gave a hygene class.

Social Studies

We had a Halloween Party and attended the We Really Shine Program.  This was a day from !!!!!!.

1st/7th – Working on review questions, projects and vocabulary words for Chapter 10.  Some are finishing up Chapter 9.  A few are already on Chapter 11 review.

3rd – Started on Chapter 12 work together (page 344) and On Your Own (page 344).

4th – Step-by-steps in Chapter 3 of Dreamweaver.

5th – Chapter 4, working on Application 4-1, 4-2, 4-3, and 4-4 on pages 110-111.

6th – Uploaded pictures and made schedule for pictures that need to be taken for advertisements.
